Randalstown Christmas Lights Switch-on is held annually on the last Friday in November. This event is one of the highlights of the festive season in Randalstown and is highly anticipated by the local community; for many it starts their Christmas celebration!. We have something for everyone as there is a wide variety of entertainment in the lead up to the main event.
Santa and some of his elves make their way to Grotto in Moores Lane from 6.30pm and he has presents for all the children who come to visit him, so make sure you are all extra good, as Santa’s elves are watching throughout the year!
There is lots going on in the lane to keep you entertained while you wait to see Santa; our friends from World of Owls present some of their birds and animals which are always a big hit and we also have some circus artists performing their spectacular acts; and to top it all off we have performances from our local primary school choirs and some surprise acts every year.
The prizes for the Schools Colouring Competition, which are generously donated by one of the local businesses in the town every year, are presented on stage by the Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, who will also switches on the Christmas Lights at approximately 8.00 pm.
As always there is a FREE warm cup of tea or coffee and mince pie (or two or more!) in the Scout Hall where everyone can sit down and enjoy the festive spirit whilst spending time with family and friends. Special thanks to local traders, Costcutters, Kenny’s Spar, Mace, Randal Bakery and Spar for providing the refreshments, year on year they are always very much appreciated by ARCHES and the community.
All of this wouldn’t be possible without funding from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and many of the volunteers who assist us on the night and in the run up to the event.
